Acclimatization & training

Acclimatize before
you climb

Ecuador's great summits sit above 5,000 m. Before Chimborazo or Cotopaxi, your body needs altitude. Train and acclimatize with PEAKS on real Andean peaks, with a fluent English-speaking guide.

Plan your acclimatization

Why it matters

A few days gaining altitude first turn a hard, risky push into a summit you can actually enjoy. Our acclimatization program builds your body, mind and technique before the big climb, guided every step.

How to come prepared

The three-layer system

Mountain weather changes fast. Dressing in layers keeps you dry, warm and comfortable the whole way.

1
Base layer
Wicking

A synthetic shirt that pulls sweat off your skin. Never cotton: it soaks and chills you.

2
Mid layer
Insulating

A fleece or a light down jacket to hold your body heat at altitude.

3
Outer layer
Protective

A waterproof, windproof shell against rain, wind and cold.

Essentials

What you can't skip

Trekking boots with ankle support Warm hat Gloves Sunscreen UV sunglasses

Fuel & water

Eat and drink

Bring at least 2 liters of water and electrolytes. Pack trail snacks: nuts, chocolate bars, fruit and sandwiches.

From training to summit

Technical gear & high-end boots

The three layers keep you moving. For the summit push we add technical gear: ice axe, crampons, harness, helmet and rope, all built on high-end mountaineering boots (La Sportiva, North Face). PEAKS has the full kit, serviced and ready to rent, so you climb safe without buying everything.

Therapies

Wim Hof method: breathe, freeze, reset

We often finish with a short Wim Hof session: conscious breathing and a shot of icy paramo water. It's quick and weather-dependent, but you come back a new person. Our way of taking the journey inward.

More energy Clear mind Less stress Stronger immunity Less inflammation Better mood

Always guided, at your own pace. Breathing is done seated or lying down, never in the water.
