The closest point to the sun.
Climb Chimborazo, Ecuador's highest mountain at 6,263 m and, because of the equatorial bulge, the point on Earth's surface farthest from its centre and closest to the sun. This guided Chimborazo expedition puts you on the Whymper summit with certified national mountain guides and a full high-altitude support system, all operated by PEAKS from our base in Riobamba at the foot of the volcano.
Our two-day format uses a high camp at 5,350 m to shorten the summit push by roughly two hours, so your rope team reaches the glacier fresher and times the summit with the first light of day. Guiding runs at a 1:2 ratio, we own our high-end technical equipment, and every climber is coached through crampon, ice-axe and rope work before setting foot on the ice.
This is a serious guided climb on a glaciated 6,000 m peak. It rewards climbers with prior crampon and ice-axe experience and solid acclimatisation. Chimborazo pairs naturally with Cotopaxi and Cayambe in a multi-summit acclimatisation program along Ecuador's Avenue of the Volcanoes.
Prior experience on crampons and ice axe, good aerobic fitness, and solid acclimatisation (ideally 2–3 days on lower peaks such as the Illinizas or Carihuairazo). Attendance at the pre-climb briefing is mandatory.
